Frequently asked questions
Yes and this is a free service when get your knives sharpened. No matter the size of the break, we will get it reshaped at no extra charge. This takes us only 10 seconds to a minute of our time. We asses what each blade needs, but can typically reshape only removing a small corner and minimal width of the blade.
Yes we sharpen both any size serrations on knives and micro serrations on scissors. Sharpening serrations is a free service when you get your knives or scissors sharpened. We don't charge extra for sharpening serrated blades because with our method, it doesnt take us any longer than sharpening a straight edge blade. We take off the minimal amount of steel to help them last even longer. We also can remove serrations you don't want on a blade and there is no extra charge for removing serrations either. Just the regular price of sharpening.
If you have a large chip in a serrated blade we can either remove the serrations or re-serrate the blade.
Eventually all knives and scissors will have their serrations worn down and need re-serrating. We can do that too through our sister kitchen store in Madison. Please allow 1-2 week turnaround for putting new serrations on blades.
Yes and this is a free service when you are getting your knives sharpened with us. No matter where the chip is located or how deep it is, we can get it out. We will also give you an honest assessment whether or not removing the necessary steel will impact your blades performance in the future.
Stop at Better Knife & Kitchen Store or visit us at a farmers market for sharpening while you shop. We also sharpen at quilt shows and block parties!

Yes! We have always had a brick and mortar location at 17000 W. Capitol Dr. In 2024 we expanded with Better Knife & Kitchen store (in partnerships with with our friends at Wisconsin Cutlery & Kitchen Supply in Madison). Now you can shop kitchen knives, pots, pans, utinsels and more any day of the week. We take appointments for sharpening while you shop and accept walk-in appointments on first come first serve basis.
And visit the adjacent Farmer's Market To Go, a local only grocery store, where the farmers and producers own their own shelves and keep 100% of their profits. We founded this store out of our love for farmers markets and a desire to have access to their food and goodies all year round in a way that supports the farmers and producers directly.
We have flat fees per item and don't charge extra for serrations, broken tips, or big chips in the blade, so it's very easy to estimate the price for all your items. You can find our full Item and Price List here
Things we do charge extra for:
Lawnmower blade cleaning - this is important so the blade balances correctly. Save $3 by cleaning it up before you come in!
Major rust removal - Optional service for heavy rust. We will always clean up minor rust off the cutting surface as part of our standard service, but if you are looking for a whole tool rust remover soak and clean, we can do that for only $10. This is usually a one time thing if you are able to keep the item dry and oiled in the future.
Polishing - you can choose the amount of time you want spent working minor scratches or imperfections out of a blade for $1/minute or upgrade to Master sharpening if its the edge you want to see extra polished!

I was just up there a few hours ago to have two knives sharpened, and everyone there was great. To all people that need knives or other sharp edges sharpened, that is the place to go. Well worth the drive.

We just brought in our full set of kitchen knives. They had rounded tips, chips, etc. They haven't been this sharp in some time. Can't believe we put off bringing them in for this long. Moleta did great work.

I've never had professional knife sharpening before and wish that I hadn't waited so long. The work was done while I waited and it was a pleasure watching what a practiced hand could accomplish. Our kitchen knives are now far sharper that I could ever have gotten them on my own. Prices were very fair. Thanks!
