Wood Carving for Beginners August 19th, 2023 Time: 6-8pm

Discover the craft and hobby of wood carving with guided instruction from Pug Dillman of Pug’s Art Studio! Students will learn the basics of wood carving and carve their own wood spirit to take home (mythical bearded creatures who are said to reside in the forest)! You will learn what tools to use in different circumstances, how to craft expression in carved faces, and how to follow the shape of the grain.Grand Inspired is also happy to co-host with Moleta: Artisanal Sharpening.

Many people give up on wood carving because of the difficulty in keeping their tools sharp or the expense of buying new ones as edges wear down. Moleta: Artisanal Sharpening provides and maintains the tools for this class and will offer a short presentation on using bladed tools safely, the importance of a sharp blade, and how to best maintain their edges after sharpening to help you save money and keep carving safely on your own. Each student will be provided with a balsa carving block to take home, as well as a variety of carving tools and a pair of cut-proof gloves to use during the class. Students will have the option to bring any knives, scissors, or garden tools  to be sharpened by Moleta during the carving portion of the class (sharpening billed separately according to prices on:https://www.moletausa.com/price-list
